Mayor Vegliante, facing his first challenge since winning the position in 1994, was re-elected to a fifth term with 169 votes. He defeated mayoral candidate Lanny Lambert, who ran on the New Wave Party ticket and earned 63 votes. Mayor Vegliante's running mates and first time trustee candidates, were also victorious with Catherine Woolfson collecting 165 votes and Michael Craig collecting 163 votes. They will replace current Trustees, Bob Strecker and George Asem who will step down next month. They have served on the Village Board since the Village's incorporation. Mr. Lambert's running mates, Arnold Perlman and Jack Clancy earned 71 votes and 64 votes, respectively, in a losing effort.
In a surprise write-in candidate for Village Justice, Gair Betts defeated Richard Agins who was the only candidate to file a petition for Justice. Mr. Betts collected 106 votes, while Mr. Agins took in 98 votes. Mr. Betts will replace Village Justice, Edward Joachim, effective July 1. Mr. Betts also serves as the Associate Justice for the Village of Westhampton Beach.
